HGP installed its patented mobile containerised methanation system in Tain. Simply put, the methanation system, takes the waste CO2 from any production or industrial process and, when combined with green hydrogen, creates biomethane. In this case, the Co2 from the fermentation process is redirected through HGP’s Methanation system to create biomethane. This biomethane can then be used to help complete the circular economy or fed into the gas grid and used to replace the use of carbon fuels further down the line in the transport or heating sectors, delivering double decarbonisation.
Objectives
The objectives of the Decarbonisation activity were to demonstrate:
Results
The system successfully proven its ability to deliver more than a 99% conversion rate for the c02 from the fermentation stage (99% pure c02) of whisky production.
The system also demonstrated a conversion rate in excess 99% on the co2 from a stream of biogas being fed directly into the methanation system from the AD plant.
Fantastic results!
Next Steps
HGP’s containerised system will over the next 12 months be testing its system on waste c02 from other industries and sectors including that of waste incineration.

We will be posting detailed results of the activity over the coming weeks.
